AC Unit Not Turning On – How to Fix It
The first step is to check the fuse or breaker panel. If the fuse is broken, replace it with one of the same size and type. If the breaker tripped, reset it. If there are still no lights on after resetting the breaker, turn off all other breakers in the home for five minutes and turn them back on again.
If none of these steps work, you’ll likely need professional AC repair services. The problem could be as simple as your condensate pan needs to be emptied. Other causes might include a broken compressor, broken motor seals, bad contactor, bad motor capacitor, bad fan motor, tripped circuit breaker or loose wiring at any place in the system.
If the system is broken, contact a service technician to fix it. They can check for broken wiring and loose parts at any place in the system. Contact your energy provider ASAP to see if they have any offers available for AC unit repair or replacement. For broken air conditioners themselves, you should always call professionals who are trained to work on all kinds of HVAC systems.
They’ll be able to diagnose the problem, explain your options and provide you with an estimate of the cost.

Two broken air conditioners are keeping the Maysville post office at 86 N. 6th St. closed until further notice, said Postmaster Joe Smith.
Smith reported that the building’s air conditioning broken over last weekend when a compressor blew out in one unit and a fan motor died in another model. The units have been repaired but have not brought down the interior temperature to where it can be maintained for customers and employees, he said.
“It’s still too hot to work in,” Smith said Monday afternoon.”I’m really sorry, I’m embarrassed about it,” he added later by telephone during an interview with this newspaper. “We’re doing all we can to get them fixed.”
The broken A/C has caused temperatures in the building to reach about 80 degrees on Sunday afternoon, Smith said.
“We really appreciate your patience,” he told customers. “I’m just sorry. I’ll get it fixed as quick as I can.”
For now, postal workers are working out of trailers provided by the post office while they wait for repairs to bring down the temperature inside the building so it’s tolerable for workers and customers. The broken system requires extensive parts replacement, he added later Monday night.
