Dealerships take as long as they need to perform a thorough inspection and maintenance of your car.

A dealership, or automotive dealer, is a business that sells new and used cars. They often also sell pre-owned motorcycles, RVs, boats, and other vehicles such as ATVs and snowmobiles. Dealerships offer new and pre-owned vehicle sales to the public. They buy trade-ins from customers and collect damaged inventory to auction for parts.

Dealership hours vary by how many shifts the dealership has; how much staff is on shift; how busy they are; how much experience employees have with their customers (time since last visit); how quickly people at the dealership want customers out the door; how much inventory they have; how many employees are on vacation at the dealership.

The most important thing dealerships do is inspect your vehicle to determine if anything needs to be fixed before you leave the lot, how long it will take to repair, how long the job will take and how long it will take you to pay off your loan/lease.

You could always drop your car off and pick up later… But what about this: You see a Best Buy commercial and think of buying a new HDTV for $1,000. Would you go buy one right now? No! You don’t just buy something without inspecting it first. Why would you get service done at a dealership before checking out all their other services available? I would advise taking a quick look at their services before dropping your car off. If you’re not happy with how they present themselves, run away!

You can call ahead and ask how busy they are or how long it will take to do what you need done. It’s also helpful if you tell them how far in advance you plan on being there so they can have everything ready for your arrival… as well as giving yourself enough time to eat breakfast/lunch, use the restroom, etc.

You might want to know how long parts take to come in. You might find that certain deals only include an oil change and tire rotation because those are the only parts that dealership has available right now. If four new tires is what your car needs, then that is how long it will take. If you don’t want a basic oil change and tire rotation, then how many hours does an oil change take?

An oil change takes as long as it needs to be done right. Ask yourself how long you would like to sit in a waiting room or how helpful your dealership is with your schedule. By calling ahead at least once, you can reduce the amount of time spent there if the job is going to require more than expected. The customer’s priority should be getting a great deal on a car they love and service with care at a dealership that makes them feel comfortable.
